Should you get a felt flat roof or a fibreglass flat roof?

Your flat roof needs replacing...should you choose a fibreglass flat roof or a felt flat roof? Let us explain the difference and help you decide.

What is a fibreglass flat roof?

A fibreglass flat roof is a popular choice and is the strongest and most durable flat roof option. As it has no seams, it's less likely to fail and let water in. A fibreglass roof will last for more than 20 years, making it an ideal choice for long term houseowners wanting a low maintenance, reliable flat roof option. It's an easy roof to repair. The downside? The price. A fibreglass flat roof is a lot more expensive than a felt flat roof. A fibreglass roof however is a good investment in your home.

What is a felt flat roof?

Felt roofs are cheaper than fibreglass, are easy to install and are largely effective. Many UK households have flat roofs for this reason. The downside is their lifespan. The average felt flat roof lasts 5-8 years, depending on the weather it experiences.

With this in mind, if you're looking for a longer term, more durable option we recommend investing in a fibreglass roof. However, if you want something effective, that's budget friendly, go for the felt flat roof option.
